Powerful aftershock jolts Cebu, Bohol-A A +A

MANILA -- A powerful aftershock from last week's magnitude-7.2 quake that jolted Central Visayas was felt in Bohol and Cebu early Monday.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) measured the quake at magnitude 5.3. It said the tremor occurred at 7:03 a.m.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Institute for Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded the same quake to have a slightly higher magnitude at 5.4.

USGS estimated the epicenter at:
- 3 km northeast of Balilihan
- 19 km south of Tibigan
- 20 km northeast of Tagbilaran, Bohol
- 33 km northeast of Danao, Cebu
- 626 km south-southeast of Manila
Radio reports said the aftershock was felt in Cebu and Bohol.
Phivolcs said, Intensity 5 was felt at San Isidro, Bohol, Intensity 4 tremors at Metro Cebu, and Intensity 3 at Tagbilaran City in Bohol. Phivolcs also said that the quake's origin was tectonic.
State seismologists earlier said aftershocks are to be expected a week after the quake, but will eventually be less frequent. (JK/SFP/Sunnex)
