Aquino mum on whom he will endorse for president in 2016-A A +A
Wednesday, October 23, 2013
PRESIDENT Benigno Aquino III refused Wednesday to divulge if he has already identified anyone whom he would endorse for president in 2016.
Aquino told the foreign press in Manila Hotel that he did not want that person to be a subject of criticisms in the next three years before the presidential polls.
"If I answer your question, I'll just had this guy pain -- guy or girl have a bulls eye painted in his forehead... so I think I will spare this group of people," he said.
But the President cited some of the qualities of a presidential nominee whom he would give his support.
Aquino said that he would want somebody who would continue the reforms that he had started.
"At the end of the day, I think they will have to address that which has all already been asked of me, 'What will happen after you step down?' Then obviously, you’d want somebody not just to continue but perhaps, improve on what has already been accomplished," he said.
"In effect, we’re asking them to step up higher given that they’ll be starting at a higher plane," the President explained.
There were speculations that Aquino would be endorsing Local Government Secretary Manuel Roxas II, his defeated running mate in the 2010 polls, to presidency in the 2016 elections. (SDR/Sunnex)
