MANILA -- Tax evasion charges were filed by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) on Thursday against the brothers of lawyer Gigi Reyes, one of the personalities facing plunder cases for the alleged misuse of pork barrel and Malampaya gas funds.
In its complaint before the Department of Justice (DOJ), the BIR said MGNP, Inc. president Neal Jose Gonzales and treasurer Patrick Jean Gonzales failed to pay P190.14 million, inclusive of surcharges and interests, for taxable years 2009, 2010, and 2011.
Documents gathered by the BIR, including those obtained from the Land Registration Authority (LRA), showed MGNP purchased from Premier Global Links, Ents., Inc. (PGLEI) the Paseo de Magallanes property on September 22, 2009 for P43.2 million.
However, MGNP failed to declare the amount used to buy the land from PGLEI in its income tax return for 2009.
MGNP allegedly repeated the mistake two years later, when it failed to declare as income the amount of P150 million used to acquire a parcel of land from C.J. Yulo and Sons, Inc. on February 1, 2011.
MGNP sold the Paseo de Magallanes property for P81.72 million on June 13, 2012 to Polyfoam RCG International, thus gaining a profit of P38.52 million which the corporation failed to report as part of its gross income after failing to file its ITR and value added tax returns last year.
MGNP is based in Ortigas Center, Pasig City. (Sunnex)
