MALACAÑANG explained Sunday that the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is just doing its work in intervening on the love affair of Freddie Aguilar and his 16-year old girlfriend.
In an interview over dzRB Radyo ng Bayan, Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma said that it is part of the DWSD's mandate to protect minors.
He said he called up DSWD Secretary Corazon Soliman to get her perspective on the issue.
Quoting Soliman, he said, "the DSWD is reaching out to counsel, the parents, and the person concerned—‘yun pong menor de edad na sangkot po dito. Dagdag pa niya, 'We are also trying to reach out to Mr. Aguilar—ibig sabihin po DSWD—We are mandated by law to protect minors but we are approaching this with sensitivity, so dialogue is the mode.”
He said that was Soliman's explanation to him.
Asked if the Palace supports the move of the DSWD, "Lahat naman po ng pagkilos ng mga ahensya ay sang-ayon sa pangkalahatang direksyon ng pambansang pamahalaan." (SDR/Sunnex)
