TWO persons were confirmed dead while another one was wounded in a shooting incident along Barangay Poblacion in Toboso, Negros Occidental on the eve of the 2013 Barangay Elections.
Police Senior Inspector Danilo Zuniga of Toboso, Negros Occidental, said that three individuals identified as Danilo Sabillo, Yuni Belleza and Brian Belleza were riding in a motorcycle along Sitio Kinalungan when five unidentified men suddenly fired at them.
Based on Sabillo's testimony, Yuni Belleza died on the spot while her companion Brian was rushed to the Vicente Bustillo District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival minutes later.
Sabillo said that he saw a certain Gary Enriquez inside the car that chased them. Enriquez was reportedly running for barangay councilor in Poblacion village, Toboso, Negros Occidental.
"Nakita ni Bustillo 'yung Gary na sakay nung kotse na humahabol sa kanila," Zuniga said.
Authorities still cannot conclude if the incident was election-related since the victims were neither residents nor voters in the area.
The Philippine National Police is now conducting manhunt operations against Enriquez and his cohorts. (Sunnex)
