Barangay chairman in Zamboanga del Norte arrested-A A +A

A BARANGAY official in Zamboanga del Norte was arrested for violating the poll gun ban on the eve of the 2013 barangay elections.
Based on the report that reached the national monitoring center of the Philippine National Police (PNP), barangay chairperson Ronald Claton of Balukunan village in Siayon town was arrested around 8:30 p.m. Sunday after authorities received several complaints against him as he was constantly displaying his firearm.
Members of the Regional Public Safety Battalion in Zamboanga Peninsula conducted a police visibility patrol in Balukunan village. When Claton noticed that the police were already approaching, he immediately threw his caliber .38 revolver somewhere.
Canlas was immediately arrested after failing to present any legal document with his firearm.
The barangay official was brought to the Siayan municipal police station and will be charged with illegal possession of firearms and violation of the election gun ban. (Sunnex)
