MANILA -- A tropical cyclone approaching from the east moved closer to the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) Monday afternoon, state weather forecasters said.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) also said the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) is affecting Palawan and Mindanao while the northeast monsoon is affecting northern Luzon.
As of 4 p.m., Pagasa said the tropical depression was estimated at 1,380 km east of Visayas, with maximum sustained winds of 45 kph.
It is forecast to move northwest at 20 kph. Once it enters the PAR, it will be locally named Vinta. It will be the 22nd cyclone to enter PAR this year.
Meanwhile, Pagasa said Palawan, eastern Visayas and Mindanao will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms.
It added Metro Manila and Ilocos, Cordillera, Cagayan valley and central Luzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains.
The rest of the country will be "partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening," it added. (JK/Sunnex)
