Monday, October 28, 2013
MANILA (Updated)-- The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) clarified on Monday afternoon that the 2013 Barangay Elections will be moved from October 28 to October 30 and 31 in Calayan town in Cagayan, not in Kalayaan group of islands in Palawan, due to inclement weather.
Contrary to the earlier report, Commander Armando Balilo, Coast Guard Public Affairs chief said that several teachers who are members of the Board of Election Tellers (BET) decided not to take the risk and postpone the delivery of election materials along several island-barangays due to bad weather condition. (See related report here.)
"The members of the BETs were stranded at mainland and can't deliver the items based on the report of our detachment there since napakaalon po so they just decided to postpone their trip until the sea condition improves," Balilo said
Balilo explained that the sea condition in the area are mostly rough during the season of the Northeast Monsoon (Hanging Amihan).
The Calayan group of islands has around 12,000 registered voters for this year's barangay polls.(Sunnex)
