Wednesday, October 30, 2013
AROUND 95 percent of the country's 42,028 barangays have already proclaimed winners, two days after the barangay elections was conducted based on the assessment made by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
Comelec Chairman Sixto Brillantes said that based on the poll body's 2 p.m. report, around 38,000 barangays have finished canvassing of election returns and proclaimed the winners.
In an ambush interview, he noted that 14 regions in the country have tallied close to 100 percent results. These include Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Soccsksargen, the Cordilleras, and Caraga.
The National Capital Region (NCR) has tallied a 95.7 percent with 74 barangays still failed to proclaimed winners within 48 hours.
Brillantes noted that the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao tallied with the lowest breakdown which is less than 50 percent due to reported violence in the area.
The Comelec chair mentioned that they are still waiting for the results of the specials election held on Wednesday and those, which will be held on October 31 and November.
Bohol and Zamboanga City meanwhile will hold their special elections on November 25. (Sunnex)
