Wednesday, October 30, 2013
COURT employees nationwide were given a chance to spend more time with their departed loved ones for All Saints' and All Souls' Days.
In a statement, the SC Public Information Office said Wednesday work in all courts on Thursday is until 12 noon only, quoting a directive from Acting Chief Justice Presbitero Velasco Jr.
Filipinos are expected to crowd bus terminals and ports to catch trips to the provinces as Thursday was not declared a holiday.
Meanwhile, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) gave tips to make the occasion garbage-free.
Environment Secretary Ramon Paje said the public should abide by local ordinances regarding the use of plastic bags, reduce wastage by bringing only a sufficient amount of food and use fresh flowers and small potted plants.
An estimated 30,000 tons of garbage is generated in the country every day, with 8,000 tons produced in Metro Manila alone. The volume increases during public events. (Sunnex)
