Senators support Aquino’s stance on corruption-A A +A

EXPRESSING full support to President Benigno Aquino III's fight against graft and corruption, Senator Grace Poe assured she is on the side of the Chief Executive in his fight against graft and corruption in the government.
The neophyte senator said, "Plunder is the real issue." She said the move to discredit the president by twisting some facts about the use of Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP) is foul.
The senator also said Aquino was right in explaining things to the Filipino people and setting things straight against those who are trying to manipulate the minds of the people by using lies and concocting stories to divert the issue.
"It's good that the President set the record straight and for saying exactly what the Filipino people needs to know and understand," Poe said.
As a mother, Poe said it is important to teach children that stealing is bad and it is not an acceptable behavior.
"We have to demonstrate our disapproval to our children when we catch them stealing so they will understand that it is not right to steal what is not yours," Poe said.
Poe added that this is the right time to explain to the people the importance of honesty and to define exactly what is right from wrong.
Poe, who is the daughter of the late actor Fernando Poe Jr. and actress Susan Roces, said her parents made her understand the values of hard earned money as well as honesty and integrity.
This issue, Poe said should be an opportunity to let the people know and understand that their leaders are serious in getting rid of corruption in the country.
Poe said she will only side with the truth and there is no way that politics can convince her to sell her principle.
"The issue here is stealing the money of the Filipino people," Poe said.
The senator said it is important to instill the right values to the young generation insisting that our leaders should set an example in condemning corruption and fighting it so that the young generation will appreciate the importance of integrity and good governance.
For Senator Cynthia Villar, it is an important move that Aquino himself explained to the people the difference between DAP and the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) which some sectors are riding on to confuse the issue.
Villar said public officials will really use projects that will contribute to the growth and progress of this country and the economy. Without the funds like DAP, the senator said "it is hard and highly impossible."
But for opposition Senator JV Ejercito, he will strongly push for the immediate abolition of DAP despite the pronouncement of the chief executive that it was not pork and it is legal under the law.
Ejercito, half brother of Senator Jinggoy Estrada who is facing a plunder case in connection with the alleged pork barrel scam, said Aquino should be sensitive to the issue. The sentiment of the people, he said, are showing against the corruption on the misuse of PDAF and the DAP which have greatly affected Aquino's ratings.
"Definitely the PDAF scam and DAP issue has affected the satisfaction rating of PNoy (Aquino). He has to show that he is serious in addressing the scams," Ejercito said.
Ejercito maintained that DAP is illegal and the fact that the President can decide and has absolute power over government funds without congressional approval is really a question as it may be use for political favors.
Meanwhile, Senator Nancy Binay said giving up DAP is one of the best decision Aquino can do if he is really considering the will of the people who want DAP and PDAF to be abolish.
Binay is hopeful that the Supreme Court will recommend the abolition of DAP and PDAF in order to put a stop on the reported abuse of these funds which gained negative reaction from various sectors.
Presently, some sectors questioned the legality of DAP before the Supreme Court. (Camille P. Balagtas/Sunnex)
