Aquino visits ex-Chief Justice Narvasa's wake-A A +A

PRESIDENT Benigno Aquino III has visited the wake of retired Chief Justice Andres Narvasa in Quezon City, Malacanang said Saturday.
Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said in an interview over dzRB Radyo ng Bayan that Aquino paid his last respect to Narvasa Friday night at Mt. Carmel Shrine Parish.
On the call by some quarters for Aquino to give special citation to Narvasa, Valte said she has yet to ask the President.
"I will have to inquire with the President if there have already been some discussions that have been raised with him in line with the matter of giving a posthumous award or declaration for the former Chief Justice," she said.
Narvasa, the country's 19th chief magistrate, died last Thursday. He was 84.
Narvasa was appointed as 112th Associate Justice of the Supreme Court by then President Corazon Aquino on April 11, 1986.
Aquino appointed Narvasa as the Chief Justice on December 8, 1991. He served as Chief Justice until his retirement on November 30, 1998.
He was also the general counsel of the Agrava Fact-finding Commission, which investigated the assassination of Senator Benigno Aquino Jr., the President's father. (SDR/Sunnex)
