MANILA (Updated, 8:19 a.m.) - A Low Pressure Area off Mindanao intensified into a tropical depression Monday morning and was locally codenamed Wilma.
Radio reports quoted the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) forecasters as saying Wilma may linger in the Philippine area of responsibility until Thursday.
Pagasa also said Wilma may bring moderate to heavy rain and affect the eastern part of Mindanao.
Signal No. 1 was hoisted over areas including Dinagat Island, Surigao del Norte, Siargao Islands, Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Norte, and Agusan del Sur.
It added Wilma is moving at 19 kilometers per hour west-northwest, and has a chance of making landfall over Mindanao.
Wilma also has a chance of becoming a tropical storm once it reaches the Sulu Sea and gains strength again. (JK/Sunnex)
