11 die in northern Cebu

ELEVEN people were reported dead in the northern part of Cebu on Saturday after Typhoon Yolanda (international name: Haiyan) hit Visayas on Friday.

In its post on Twitter, @sunstarcebu said four casualties were reported in Medellin, Cebu. Two of them are mother and daughter from Bogo City whose bodies were washed ashore.

Cebu Representative Pablo John Garcia, as retweeted by Sun.Star Cebu, said in Bantayan, Cebu, there were seven people reportedly dead, but officials have yet to survey the town and the islets. The town needs water and generator sets.

He said Bantayan Mayor Ian Escario said the island looks like a war zone, adding that 90 percent of the houses standing have no more roofs.

In Medellin, ambulances are needed to bring more casualties to Cebu City.

All government buildings, schools in Medellin, Cebu were severely damaged. Only one classroom has a roof and many evacuees are staying there.

Cebu Provincial Government, on its Facebook post on Saturday, said Tabogon, Bogo and San Remegio were badly hit by the typhoon.

Davinci Maru of Sun.Star Cebu also reported damages in Daanbantayan.

Maru said in his tweet @dsm_sunstar that the local governments of Bogo, Daanbantayan, Sogod are now under state of calamity.

Bogo City Mayor Celestino Martinez said: “#YolandaPH destroyed everything we have here, from infra to agri. We didn't expect it could do such damage.”

Medellin Mayor Ricardo Ramirez said, "School's new gym, 2nd floor all gone; all electric poles down. Gov't infra heavily damaged or wiped out. #YolandaPH."
