MANILA (Updated) -- The country is yet to produce our third Miss Universe crown after Laguna-born beauty Ariella Arida failed to win the coveted title.
The 24-year-old finished third runner-up in the annual international beauty competition held Sunday morning (Manila time) at Crocus City Hall in Moscow, Russia.
The competition was bested by Miss Venezuela Gabriela Isler. Miss Spain Patricia Rodriguez came next (1st runner-up), while Miss Ecuador Constanza Baez and Miss Brazil Jekelyne Oliveira, finished 2nd and 4th, respectively.
Other entrants who made it to the Top 10 are Miss Great Britain Amy Willerton, Miss India Manasi Moghe, Miss USA Erin Brady, Miss Ukraine Olga Storozhenko, and Yaritza Reyes from the Dominican Republic.
Arida's third runner-up finish follows the close Miss Universe title campaign by former beauty queens Venus Raj (2010), Shamcey Supsup (2011) and last year's first runner up Janine Tugonon.
The country will still have to wait for the elusive crown which was first won by Gloria Diaz in 1969 and Margie Moran in 1973.
Although she did not bag the crown, Arida received one of the loudest cheers from the audience from the start of the competition up until the question and answer portion.
She especially wowed the crowd when Gold medalist figure skater Tara Lipinski, one of the judges, asked her on what can be done about the lack of jobs of the young people around the world.
Miss Philippines then answered: "We should invest in education and that's my primary advocacy. Education is the ticket to a better future".
Early on in the competition, Arida also made waves in the international pageant when she was chosen as one of the six entrants to represent German luxury automobile brand Mercedes-Benz in a television advertorial.
In the said commercial, she was joined by Miss Germany Anne-Julia Hagen, Miss Austria Doris Hofmann, Miss Mexico Cynthia Duque, Miss Poland Paulina Krupinska and Miss Russia Elmira Abdrazakova.
The said boob tube commercial will be aired on Russian television this November until the end of 2013.
Arida entered the top 16 after topping the online poll. She was joined by Costa Rica, Ukraine, China, Ecuador, UK, Indonesia, Venezuela, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Spain, USA, Nicaragua, Switzerland, India and Brazil.
The women then paraded in bikinis to determine who will qualify in the evening gown round.
Representatives from Spain, Philippines, Great Britain, India, Brazil, USA, Ukraine, Ecuador, Venezuela, Dominican Republic made it into the next phase.
This year's beauty pageant was judged by Aerosmith frontman and lead singer Steven Tyler, Nobu and Matsuhisa restaurants' Chef Nobu, Lipinski, television personality Carl Alt, supermodel Anne V., Farouk Shami, Italo Fontana and Russian pop star Philip Kirkorov.
Viewers were also treated to special performances by Steven Tyler, Grammy-nominated band Panic! at The Disco and international recording artist EMIN.
According to the pageant's hosts, "MSNBC Live" anchorman Thomas Roberts and Melanie Brown, the competition was watched by one billion people in over 190 countries around the world.
The Miss Universe organization also dedicated the 62nd edition of the prestigious beauty contest to the Philippines and Vietnam, the two countries ravaged by super typhoon Haiyan.
