MALACAÑANG congratulated Sarangani Representative Manny Pacquiao for winning the World Boxing Organization (WBO) International Welterweight Belt against Mexican-American Brandon Rios in a 12-round boxing match held in Macau on Sunday.

"In 12 rounds, Manny displayed unmatched speed and strength to defeat his opponent, and once again, triumph inside the ring," said Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda in a statement.

He said that Pacquiao's victory serves as a source of strength and inspiration for the entire nation after Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) devastated a large part of the Visayan region.

"It is our hope that the principle that guides him in each fight does not change: that every punch he throws, is a punch for the honor of our people," Lacierda said.

In a unanimous decision, Pacquiao managed to return to the ring triumphantly after his shocking knockout from Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez in their fight in December last year in Las Vegas. (SDR/Sunnex)
