Aquino: Lacson a 'no-nonsense person'-A A +A
Tuesday, December 3, 2013
PRESIDENT Benigno Aquino III described Tuesday former senator Panfilo Lacson as "no-nonsense person" who could produce immediate results.
The Chief Executive said this was the reason why he chose Lacson, a political ally, to oversee the rehabilitation efforts of areas devastated by typhoon Yolanda.
"Why Ping Lacson? Maybe Ping Lacson strikes me as a no-nonsense person," he said when asked in the 27th Bulong Pulungan Christmas Party in Pasay City why he selected Lacson to be the "rehabilitation czar."
The President said that the other members of the Cabinet have their normal functions and he did not want their time to be divided also.
He said there is an "imperative to get our people back in a better condition at the soonest possible time."
So if it would be a Cabinet official who would also focus on the rehabilitation program, the President said, "the attention is divided between the two obligations right off the bat."
"Now, having Ping Lacson at the center wherein he’s a no-nonsense guy, focused solely on Yolanda’s rehabilitation will undoubtedly achieve the targets sooner. And that is, I guess, why we look at the unique capabilities of Mr. Lacson or Senator Lacson to be able to deliver," he explained.
Aquino also reassured of the transparency of the international aid being extended to the Philippines, pointing to the two-week old website the "Foreign Aid Transparency Hub or FAiTH" where all the foreign aid pledges and those received by the government and other organizations could be seen.
