MANILA -- A “Million People March” rally against the pork barrel system is set anew on Friday, December 6, at the Ombudsman Building, Agham Road, Diliman, Quezon City. The event will mark the 100th day of Janet Napoles's surrender last August.
In their official Facebook page, the Million People March to Scrap Pork Barrel invited the public to join the march-rally, which will start with a noise barrage, followed by a march toward Quezon Memorial Circle where the organizers will hold a program.
"Time to return to the streets and not only preserve our people's victory in the Supreme Court but also to make sure that the guilty are thrown in jail," the group said.
"Public Service must rule the day and not Politicking," it added.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own bells, cymbals, candles, and lanterns, among others.
Friday's event will be the third rally organized by the same group.
Napoles, the central figure in the alleged pork barrel scam, surrendered to President Benigno Aquinoo III last August 28 and is now detained at the Fort Sto. Domingo in Laguna for alleged serious illegal detention of whistleblower and relative Benhur Luy.
The controversial businesswoman's surrender, which was arranged by her lawyer Lorna Kapunan through former colleague Lacierda, came hours after Aquino offered P10-million reward for anyone who can give information leading to her arrest.
Napoles allegedly used 20 fake non-government organizations (NGOs) to pocket public funds in connivance with some legislators and government employees.
Meanwhile, in November, the Supreme Court justices have declared the pork barrel unconstitutional, ending the decades-long practice of allowing lawmakers to sponsor projects from it. (Sunnex)
