MANILA -- A lawyer on Friday denied putting the Supreme Court (SC) and the whole judiciary in a bad light for claiming that corruption happens even in the highest court of the land.
Lorna Kapunan said her television interview on November 21 was made with “all good intentions” to help the SC in cleansing the judiciary.
“Our people are clamoring for cleansing of not only Congress but the other co-equal branches of government, the Executive and the Judiciary. No reform will be complete if the judiciary is spared from this cleansing process,” she said in a text message to Sun.Star.
Kapunan asked those who have faith in the country’s justice system to heed the call of Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno to come forward and name the “hoodlums in robes” or judges and justices involved in corrupt practices.
Speaking to morning show “Umagang Kay Ganda," Kapunan claimed an SC justice can be bought for a favorable ruling while a temporary restraining order (TRO) from the Court of Appeals can be secured for as much as P5 million.
The High Court gave Kapunan, former lawyer of alleged PDAF scam queen Janet Napoles, until December 12 to explain the reason behind those claims. (Sunnex)
