4 NPA rebels killed in Compostela clash-A A +A

ZAMBOANGA CITY – The government forces have killed four New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in two separate clashes in the hinterlands of Compostela Valley province, a military official said Saturday.
Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom) chief Lieutenant General Ricardo Rainier Cruz III said three rebels, including two women, were killed on Wednesday at Sitio Lin-ao in Barangay Teresa, Maco town.
The two women were members of the NPA operating in the municipality of Maco, Compostela Valley province, he added.
Cruz said the other one was killed on Friday in Barangay Malamodao of the same town.
The troops from the Army’s 71st Infantry Battalion have no casualties on both clashes, Cruz said.
He said the troops have recovered a hand grenade, magazines for M-16 rifles and backpacks containing personal belongs.
He said the separate clashes took place following a request from civilians in the area who requested for a regular security patrols for their protection from NPA harassments and extortion activities.
He encouraged the residents to continue to report to the nearest military and policemen the presence of NPA in their respective communities.
