Philippines wins Miss International crown-A A +A

MANILA -- Philippines' bet Bea Rose Santiago bagged the 2013 Miss International title Tuesday evening, besting 66 entrants from around the world.
The 23-year-old wowed the judges during the question and answer portion, wherein the final 5 contestants were asked what they will do if they win the title.
With the recent calamities that struck the Philippines in mind, the Masbate-born beauty said: "Philippines: The whole world saw how my country suffered. One by one, other countries helped. You have opened my heart and eyes on what we can do to help each other. I will work to sustain the spirit of sympathy and spirit of hope. As long as we work together, there is hope."
After her name was announced as this year's winner, Santiago, who is also a Filipina-Canadian, dedicated her win to the whole nation.
Following her triumph are Miss Netherlands Nathalie den Dekker (1st runner-up) and Casey Radley (2nd runner-up) from New Zealand. Radley also bagged Miss Friendship.
Other names who made it to the Final 5 are Miss Colombia Lorena Hermida and 21-year-old Brigitta Otvos representing Hungary.
Miss Aruba Erialda Croes won Miss National Costume, Adela Ka-Wai Sou (Macau) was named Miss Internet, and Miss Lithuania Elma Segzdaviciute took home the Miss Photogenic award.
Santiago's win is the 5th Miss International title for the Philippines.
Gemma Cruz-Araneta first bagged the coveted crown in 1964 followed by Aurora Pijuan in 1970, Melanie Marquez in 1979 and Precious Lara Quigaman in 2005.
Tuesday’s pageant was held at Shinagawa Prince Hotel Hall in Tokyo, Japan. (Sunnex)
