Pacquiao calls on Aquino amid tax issue-A A +A
Wednesday, December 18, 2013
PRESIDENT Benigno Aquino III on Wednesday received in Malacanang Sarangani Representative Emmanuel "Manny" Pacquiao.
The boxing icon paid a courtesy call on Aquino after defeating last month Mexican-American boxer Brandon Rios in a bout in Macau.
Prior to Pacquiao's courtesy call, the President said that it took time before the meeting was scheduled because both of them were busy.
"Nandoon rin tayo sa panahon ng kasagsagan ng Yolanda; siya rin mismo nagpunta doon at tumulong. So palagay ko naman e, busy siya at palagay ko naman, kita niyo mas busy ako. Wala namang other point other than iyong scheduling conflict," he said when asked why it took time before the courtesy call was made.
Pacquiao is currently embroiled over a tax issue before the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).
The state revenue agency has been demanding Pacquiao to pay at least P2.2 billion for his tax deficiencies for his alleged failure to declare correct taxes in 2008 and 2009.
The case is currently before the Court of Tax Appeals.
Aquino said that he was ready to listen to whatever Pacquiao would tell him during their meeting. (SDR/Sunnex)
