Aquino won't visit Arroyo at VMMC-A A +A
Wednesday, December 25, 2013
PRESIDENT Benigno Aquino III has no plan to visit former president and now Pampanga congresswoman Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo who has been under hospital arrest.
This was despite calls by some quarters for the President to visit her at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) in Quezon City.
"The President strongly believes that the law has to take its course and that accountability must be exacted," said Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma in a text message to reporters.
He clarified that Aquino "holds no ill will" for the former president.
Calls for Aquino to visit Arroyo came after former president and now Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada visited his predecessor last week.
It was Estrada's first time to visit the ailing former president since she was placed under hospital arrest for plunder case before the Sandiganbayan.
Arroyo's case was stemmed from the alleged misuse of the intelligence fund of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office during her stint as president. (SDR/Sunnex)
