Petilla to quit for failing to fully energize typhoon-hit areas-A A +A
Wednesday, December 25, 2013
MANILA -- Energy Secretary Jericho Petilla will submit his resignation to President Benigno Aquino III after he failed to fully energize Visayas, which was hit by Super Typhoon Yolanda last month, a Palace official said Wednesday.
Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda, quoting Petilla, said that "he is keeping his word."
The Department of Energy (DOE) failed to energize three towns out of 300.
Petilla earlier said that if he failed to energize all the towns in Visayas by December 24, he would resign from his post.
But Lacierda said that with only three towns left un-energized, Petilla "has accomplished almost 100 percent of his promise."
"As to whether the President will accept (Petilla's resignation), let's wait first for the conversation," he said. (SDR/Sunnex)
