MANILA (Updated)-- Temperatures may continue to fall in parts of Northern Luzon, including the Cordillera region, in the coming weeks, state weather agency said Monday.

In a radio interview, state weather forecaster Fernando Cada said there is a chance of frost continuing in Benguet and other areas in the Cordillera due to the low temperatures.

He said this is due to the Northeast Monsoon (Hanging Amihan), which he said may peak in late January.

"Talagang magkakaroon sa mataas na lugar, magkakaroon ng frost ang lugar na yan. Lalo pag lumalakas ang northeast monsoon (There is a chance of frost in high areas, especially with the northeast monsoon still gaining strength)," he said.

Cada also said they are not discounting the chance of at least one cyclone entering the Philippine Area of Responsibility this month.

Meanwhile, the Northern and Central Luzon continues to be affected by Amihan which may cause light rain, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Eastern Visayas and Davao region will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rain and thunderstorms, the Pagasa said in its 5 a.m. bulletin.

"Metro Manila and the regions of Cagayan Valley, Ilocos, Cordillera, Central Luzon, Bicol region and Calabarzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rain," it said.

Pagasa added, "The rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms."

The state weather agency said, "Moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over Northern and Central Luzon and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough."

Elsewhere in the country, winds will be light to moderate coming from the northeast with slight to moderate seas, Pagasa also said.

Fishing boats and other small seacraft were warned against going into the sea as strong to gale force winds are expected to affect the seaboards of Northern and Central Luzon.

Pagasa said that this is due to the prevailing Amihan.

It also said that larger sea vessels should remain alerted against huge waves especially on the seaboards of Batanes, Calayan, Babuyan, Cagayan, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Isabela and Aurora. (SFP/JK/Sunnex)
