MANILA (Updated) -- Twenty domestic flights were cancelled on Saturday due to bad weather caused by a low-pressure area (LPA) off Mindanao.

All cancellations were from Cebu Pacific. These include flights from Manila to Cagayan de Oro, Ozamis, Butuan and Tagbilaran and back.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Caraga and Davao regions will experience cloudy skies with moderate to heavy rainshowers and thunderstorms that may trigger flashfloods and landslides.

The LPA was last seen 420 kilometers east of General Santos City on Saturday morning.

Meanwhile, Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) commandant Vice Admiral Rodolfo Isorena has directed all district commanders in areas affected by the brewing storm to coordinate with their counterparts in the Regional Disaster Risk and Management Council for the rescue and assistance activities.

He advised the port inspectors to be vigilant in their areas of responsibility while operators of small vessels, motor bancas and fishing boats were asked to avoid sailing the southeastern and eastern section of the country due to rough seas.

Isorena also reminded boat operators with open deck and fishermen in the areas not directly affected by the weather disturbance to exercise extra diligence in sailing, monitor weather updates, and always wear safety gear while at sea.

Shipping vessels are not allowed to travel especially once the LPA develops into a tropical depression and public storm warning signals are hoisted in affected areas. (John Carlo Cahinhinan/Sunnex)
