Bishop: Don’t forget earthquake victims-A A +A
Saturday, January 11, 2014
TAGBILARAN Bishop Leonardo Medroso said Saturday that areas affected by the powerful earthquake in Central Visayas last October 15 still need help.
“We feel forgotten here in Bohol,” he said in an article posted on the news portal of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP).
He noted that they have to rise again by helping each other and keeping a strong faith in God.
“We are in the stage of rebuilding. Of course, this is the spirit of the people here who were discouraged because of the earthquake,” Medroso said. “The people are recovering very fast and their faith becomes stronger. That means that the earthquake is a means of evangelization for us, very strong.”
Medroso also appealed for assistance to rebuild damaged churches, noting the reconstruction of the houses of worship would bring hope to the people.
Fifty churches, including eight heritage sites, in Bohol suffered major damage during the magnitude-7.2 tremor, which also hit Cebu.
In the meantime, Medroso said masses are being conducted in “smaller but decent” alternate churches. (FP/Sunnex)
