MANILA -- The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has instructed its personnel in sea terminals and airports to monitor the movement of alleged rice smuggling king Davidson Bangayan, who carries the alias David Tan.

BI spokesperson Maria Angelica Pedro confirmed in a text message on Thursday evening that a lookout bulletin (LBO) was issued by BI Commissioner Siegfred Mison.

"As of 5:30 this afternoon, Davidson Bangayan aka David Tan is already included in the Bureau's Immigration Lookout Bulletin Order," said Pedro.

Justice Secretary Leila de Lima said Wednesday Bangayan had to be placed on the LBO due to the ongoing probe by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on rice smuggling.

An LBO, however, does not bar a person from leaving the Philippines in light of the Supreme Court (SC) stay order on the Department of Justice's power to put suspected criminals under a watchlist. (Sunnex)
