CEBU CITY – Expect moderate to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms over Central Visayas and the rest of Eastern Visayas as tropical depression “Agaton” continues to slowly move towards the Surigao Provinces, the state weather bureau said.
In its 5 a.m. weather bulletin, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said “Agaton” was estimated based on all available data at 170 kilometers (km) Northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur or 175 km East of Surigao City. It has maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and is forecasted to move West at 5 kph.
Public storm signal No. 1 is hoisted in Surigao del Norte including Siargao Islands, Surigao del Sur, Dinagat Province, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Davao Oriental and Compostella Valley.
Signal No. 1 is also raised in Southern Leyte Province in Eastern Visayas.
Pagasa also warned that sea travel is risky over the seaboards of Luzon and Visayas. The estimated rainfall amount is from 5 – 15 mm per hour (moderate - heavy) within the 300 km diameter of the Tropical Depression.
“Agaton” is expected to be at 70 km North of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur Sunday morning and at 65 km North of Davao City by Monday morning, the weather bulletin stated. It is expected to be at 90 km South of Cotabato City by Tuesday morning.
Earlier, 34 persons were killed due to flashfloods and landslide in some provinces in Mindanao as Agaton continuous to affect the southern Philippines. Roads and bridges were also reported damaged particularly in Lanao del Norte Province. (BJA/Sunnex)
