DAVIDSON Bangayan apparently admitted in the past that he is the alleged rice smuggling leader David Tan, documents submitted by a businessman to Justice Secretary Leila de Lima showed Tuesday.
The documents pertain to Bangayan’s libel complaint against Jesus Arranza, chairman of the Federation of Philippine Industries (FPI), and Singaporean businessmen, who alleged in a newspaper report that he is involved in swindling and smuggling activities.
"The identification of the person in the subject publication definitely referred to me, considering that there is no other person by the name Davidson Bangayan a.k.a. David Tan. There is no question that I was clearly and directly identified in the subject publication," said Bangayan in the complaint, which Arranza gave to de Lima in a meeting at the DOJ.
Arranza recently said Bangayan did not dispute before a Calamba City court in 2005 that he uses the alias David Tan in his dealings with the Singaporeans, who accused him of shipping garbage and sand instead of metal scraps to India.
Last week, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) freed Bangayan after he brought identification documents showing he was not the David Tan on the arrest order issued by the Caloocan City court for electricity pilferage. (Sunnex)
