Eastern Visayas, Mindanao to experience cloudy skies-A A +A
Wednesday, January 22, 2014
THE low pressure Area (LPA) is still at the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) but is expected to dissipate for the next 24-48 hours, population in the Mindanao region can somehow feel a bit relieved as the rain shower expected to be experienced in the area was light to moderate, the state weather bureau said Wednesday.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said eastern Visayas and Mindanao will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rain showers and thunderstorms while Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated light rains.
"Moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over Luzon and Visayas and coming from the northeast to northwest over Mindanao. The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be moderate to rough," Pagasa said.
On the other hand, LPA was estimated based on all available data at 610 kilometer northeast of Davao City.
"There is a minimal chance that the LPA will again turn into a tropical depression or storm," Pagasa said.
Pagasa said the accumulated rainfall it has produced can be compared to tropical depression "Ondoy," which was experienced years ago.
"The only difference is that the Ondoy produced it over one day while it (LPA) was experienced over two weeks," Pagasa said.
Pagasa said the accumulated rainfall in the LPA has produced reached 57.6 millimeters (mm) in Southern Leyte, 56.2 mm in Davao del Sur while 469.3 mm in Surigao del Sur, 292.7 mm in Agusan del Norte and 291.8 mm in Surigao del Norte.
Meawhile, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported Tropical Depression "Agaton" killed 45 people and affected 900,000 in Mindanao before it weakened into an LPA.
The number of injured rose to 68 while eight was still missing in four Mindanao regions.
Infrastructure and agriculture damage reached P369,142,178.22 in Davao Region, Northern Mindanao, Caraga Region and Zamboanga Peninsula. (Sunnex)
