FORMER Senator Ramon Revilla Sr. may be investigated for using Janet Napoles' trading company as supplier of liquid fertilizer to some local government units between 2003 and 2004, Justice Secretary Leila de Lima said Thursday.

De Lima said whistleblower Benhur Luy can submit a sworn statement to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) regarding his allegation in a newspaper report that Revilla diverted P35 million of his Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) to six towns for fertilizer projects implemented by Napoles' Jo-Chris Trading.

These municipalities are Clarin, Misamis Occidental (P10 million); San Quintin, Pangasinan (P5 million); Porac, Pampanga (P5 million); Siniloan, Laguna (P5 million); San Juan, Leyte (P5 million); and Dawis, Bohol (P5 million).

Jo-Chris gained notoriety for its alleged involvement in the fertilizer fund scam in 2004.

"We cannot just rely on the news reports. If there is evidence and sworn statement, we have no choice but to also pursue that although obviously, it’s like Napoles-related transactions," de Lima said.

Revilla left the Senate in 2004, the same year his son and namesake Ramon Jr. was first elected to the chamber.

The younger Revilla is currently facing plunder charges before the Office of the Ombudsman for pocketing P224.51 million as kickback from Napoles, the alleged pork barrel scam mastermind. (Sunnex)
