CEBU CITY -- The Hubo mass, an annual tradition of the changing of vestments of the Holy Child Jesus' image, was held Friday to mark the end of the Sinulog 2014.

The celebration started at 4 a.m. at the Basilica del Sto. Niño's Pilgrim Center.

The ritual included the removal of Sto. Niño’s crown, orb, scepter, cape, tunic, and other garments.

Sto. Niño's naked image was dipped in perfumed water and was dressed up again while prayers were recited.

In his homily, Basilica rector Fr. Jonas Mejares likened the Philippines as an old car and the Filipinos as its passengers.

Mejares said that like an old car, the country may experience challenges. He said that as passengers, the citizens should stand as one in "pushing" the nation toward the right path.

The rector urged that instead of complaining to the Church and government, the people should unite for the Philippine's growth and welfare. (Sunnex)
