ZAMBOANGA CITY -- The Zamboanga International Airport (ZIA) has cancelled the evening flights since Sunday due to defective runway lights, an official said.

Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines-Zamboanga City Chief of Airport Maintenance Vicente Balan Jr. said Monday that the lights on both sides of the runway were busted due to grounded connections.

Balan said the flights at ZIA both inbound and outbound are only up to 6 p.m. due to the problem.

He said the personnel from the air navigation system are now repairing the runway lights, but added they could not determine as to when the repair works will be completed.

The runway lights are important since they serve as guides to aviator, especially those flying at night time. (PNA)
