PRESIDENT Benigno Aquino III on Tuesday said that People Power Revolt 28 years ago against the regime of late President Ferdinand Marcos did not only take place in Metro Manila but also in other areas in the country, like Cebu.

This was the reason why he decided to commemorate the bloodless revolution in Cebu province, Aquino said in an interview.

He said that bringing the Edsa People Power Revolution in Cebu did not mean that he was revising the history.

While other key players in the historic event were not able to attend the ceremony in Cebu, the President noted that former President Fidel Ramos still did his traditional jump on Monday in Manila.

In his speech during the flag raising ceremony in the provincial capitol of Cebu, Aquino also recalled that as early as September 1983, Cebu already became part of the plan to oust Marcos.

The President said that he even went to Cebu that time and when he arrived there, he already felt that apparently Martial Law was no longer being implemented there.

He also recalled that shortly after the snap elections in 1986, his mother, late President Corazon Aquino, who challenged Marcos, went to Cebu to call for civil disobedience by boycotting all the products by the firms owned by Marcos' cronies.

The commemoration of the People Power Revolution in Cebu and not in Edsa, Quezon City, was the first since 1986. (SDR/Sunnex)
