MANILA -- The first three days of the week will continue to be storm-free, but cold and rainy weather will remain in most parts of the country due to the effects of the northeast monsoon, the state weather bureau said Sunday.

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) weather forecaster Gener Quitlong said the agency is not anticipating any cyclone to affect the Philippines until Wednesday.

Quitlong, however, noted that the northeast monsoon continues to affect Luzon and Visayas, bringing cool weather that is expected to last until mid-March.

In its 5 a.m. Sunday bulletin, Pagasa said Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon and Visayas will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains.

Meanwhile, Mindanao will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

It added that moderate to occasionally strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over eastern section of the country. The coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to occasionally rough.

Quitlong said a tropical storm was spotted over the Pacific Ocean, but will not affect the country in the next four to five days.

“Masyado pa itong malayo. Hindi inaasahan papasok based sa nga models na pinapakita. Makakaapekto ito ng bansa, yung trough or extended cloudiness ng tropical storm ang magbigay ng pagulan sa ibang parte ng Mindanao,” he said. (PNA/Sunnex)
