SENATE Majority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano on Monday brushed off reports that he is eyeing the presidency in the 2016 national elections.

Cayetano, a member of the Nacionalista Party (NP), said that he is now focused on advocating PTK, which stands for Presyo, Trabaho/Kita, Kaayusan. Cayetano won under the Team PNoy coalition in the 2013 polls.

"Right now, I am focused on fulfilling my promises in the 2013 elections, which were barely nine months ago. The 2013 campaign where I promised to help address the daily problems of our people in dealing with high prices, lack of jobs and low income," Cayetano said in a statement.

Reports said Cayetano is likely to team up with fellow NP, Senator Antonio Trillanes IV.

Cayetano said that the reported headquarters his team is supposedly maintaining in Bonifacio Global City in Taguig City is presently handling PTK programs.

"Yes, it is true that we have private offices that we use in Taguig. This is public knowledge since we used this office for our Yolanda relief operations and to handle our PTK programs," he said.

"As I have always said, anyone who wants to run for President must first prove to the Filipino people that he or she not only has the capability to manage and govern the country, ensuring that economic growth will be genuinely felt by all especially the poor, but also has the political will to ensure that all forms of corruption be cleansed from government," Cayetano added.

Cayetano said the right time will come to talk about the elections and candidacies.

"But now is the time for action and programs, not the time to shift gears and focus on campaigning for higher office," he said.

If he decides to run for president, Cayetano is likely to run against incumbent Vice President Jejomar Binay, who recently cut his ties with the Partido Demokratiko ng Pilipinas-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) to form a new political party. (Sunnex)
