Palace mum on Roxas-Aquino tandem in 2016-A A +A

MALACANANG on Monday shrugged off the political plan of Vice President Jejomar Binay for 2016 as it was also mum on the reported tandem of Interior and Local Government Secretary Manuel Roxas II and presidential sister Kris Aquino in the 2016 elections.
Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said the Aquino administration is focused on its work.
"Let me tell you that we are in the 849th day of our administration. There's still those number of days for governance, so we have no comment on the formation of a new political party by Vice President Binay," he said.
"Obviously, if that is true, that is his decision to make. We have no hand in there, so we have no comment," he added.
Binay has said that he would be forming his own political party as he would cut ties with the Partido Demokratiko ng Pilipinas-Laban (PDP-Laban) being headed by Senator Aquilino Pimentel III.
He was also reportedly eyeing Batangas Governor Vilma Santos as his running mate in the 2016 elections.
On reports that Roxas and television host and actress Kris Aquino were being eyed as administration's bets for president and vice president, respectively, in the 2016 polls, Lacierda reiterated that the administration is in the midst of governance.
"Secretary Mar Roxas is still the SILG. He’s still busy...he’s in the midst of doing his job as Secretary of Interior and Local Government," he said.
Lacierda also refused to say if Roxas remains a viable candidate for presidency, noting that it would be the President who would make a decision.
"It's too far off and I don't want to preempt the President. Whatever decision he makes, we will support, and we will wait for his decision, and wait for his announcement," he said. (SDR/Sunnex)
