SENATOR Ralph Recto on Monday ended speculation about the supposed plan of his wife, Batangas Governor Vilma Santos, to run for higher office in the 2016 national elections.

"Walang plano si Vilma na tumakbo sa 2016 na alam ko," Recto said.

Reports said Vice President Jejomar Binay, who recently cut his ties with the Partido Demokratiko ng Pilipinas-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) to form a new political party, is considering Santos as his runningmate.

Recto said Binay, who earlier announced his plans to run for president in 2016, and his wife had no opportunity yet to talk about politics.

"Nakabisita si VP Binay sa Batangas pero para pag-usapan ang housing concerns," Recto said of Binay who also sits as housing czar.

The Recto couple belongs to the ruling Liberal Party (LP) of President Benigno Aquino III.

Recto said the actress-turned politician plans to retire from politics when her third term as governor ends in 2016.

"Ang asawa ko nagtatrabaho 9 na taong gulang pa lang so napakahabang panahon nang nagtatrabaho si Vilma at palagay ko gusto rin niyang gumawa ng mga bagong pelikula at nakapaglingkod na rin siya ng mahabang panahon sa lalawigan ng Batangas," he said.

Santos appeared in only three films since she was elected governor in 2007. These films are "In My Life," "The Healing," and the independent movie "Ekstra."

"Kung tatakbo si Vilma, tatakbo siya na pangulo ng senior citizens at siya ang magiging pinakamaganda," Recto said of his 60-year-old wife. (Sunnex)
