CEBU (Updated 4:47 p.m.) -- A fire hit basement 2 (not basement 3 as earlier reported) of Crown Regency Hotel in Fuente Osmeña, Cebu City at noon Wednesday.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) received the fire alarm at 12:30 p.m. and the blaze was declared under control around 12:45 p.m.

Cebu City Fire Officer 3 (FO3) Emiliano Daño, in an interview with Sun.Star Network Exchange (Sunnex), estimated the cost of damage at P10,000.

Based on initial investigation, Daño said that an employee of the hotel allegedly bumped into a container of flammable liquid inside the basement.

He said that present during the incident were three hotel employees: generator set operator Merson Loquias, a certain "Vincent," and Teodolo Navales.

Daño said that according to Loquias, it was "Vincent" who accidentally hit the container, but there was no immediate word from Vincent at the time of the incident.

Daño said they are still conducting further investigation to determine what really caused the fire. (NMP/JAC/Sunnex)
