ZAMBOANGA CITY -- A group of unidentified persons seized a vice mayor of a Basilan town at a shopping mall in this southern port city, the police reported Tuesday.

Police Station 11 Chief Diomarie Albarico said the incident happened around 1:45 p.m. Tuesday at a shopping mall along La Purisima Street, Zamboanga City.

Superintendent Albarico identified the victim as Arsina Nanoh, 20, vice mayor of Hadji Muhtamad, Basilan province.

Alnajil, the victim's husband, reported the incident to Albarico's headquarters.

Investigation revealed that the couple was about to leave the mall when the vice mayor received a call requesting her to return inside the mall. Minutes later, Alnajil received a text message from his wife's mobile phone telling him not to worry as she is just having a meeting with someone inside the mall.

Alnajil, however, was prompted to report to the police after he received another text message telling him that his wife is in the men’s custody.

Albarico immediately ordered a hot pursuit operation to rescue the victim, but to no avail as of Tuesday afternoon.

Investigation continues to identify the kidnappers, the police said. (Sunnex)
