MANILA -- A school teacher, who was earlier abducted by Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) brigands, was released by the bandits Thursday.
Captain Ryan Lacuesta, 2nd Marine Brigade civil-military operations officer, said victim Alrashid Jahang, a teacher at the Taglibi Elementary School, was freed in Barangay Kadday Mampallam around 9 a.m.
He said they have no reports indicating that ransom was paid to facilitate Jahang's release.
"The release was made possible through negotiations by the local government unit and the victim's relatives," Lacuesta said.
Jahang will be brought to the Marine headquarters in Camp Teodulfo Bautista, Barangay Busbus, Jolo, for medical check-up and debriefing.
Jahang was abducted around 4 p.m. Wednesday in Sitio Baunoh, Barangay Liang.
He was riding a motorcycle from Barangay Taglibi to Jolo when about 10 armed men led by Aljini Mundoc alias Ninok Sapari flagged him down and forcibly took him towards the southeast. (PNA)
