FACING possible disciplinary action, Bureau of Immigration (BI) spokesperson Maria Angelica Pedro said Thursday she will apologize to her boss, Justice Secretary Leila de Lima, for telling the public that socialite Ruby Tuason is out of the country.

"We are under her supervision, so there's no point not to (apologize)," Pedro told Sun.Star in a text message.

De Lima got mad at Pedro on Wednesday, saying the whereabouts of Tuason, a potential state witness in the alleged Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) scam, should not be disclosed without her clearance.

The Justice chief said Tuason's location must remain secret in light of her admission into the Department of Justice's Witness Protection Program.

Pedro said Tuason left for Hong Kong last Sunday as the socialite's lawyer Dennis Manalo admitted his client was actually bound for the United States to raise P40 million that she will return to the government.

The amount represents the commission she got for brokering the deal between Janet Napoles and Senators Juan Ponce Enrile and Jinggoy Estrada, who allotted parts of their PDAF to the businesswoman's ghost projects.

Manalo declined to say if Tuason, who claimed she personally delivered kickbacks to Estrada and for Enrile, is already in the US, where she stayed for months before returning to the Philippines in early February to reveal her knowledge and participation in the anomaly. (Sunnex)
