POLICE have arrested on Sunday a suspect in the fatal shooting of court judge in Zamboanga City, a Cabinet official said Monday.
Local Government Secretary Manuel Roxas II identified the suspect as Mohamad Alkhalidz Paradji Amisali, who was arrested by joint police teams at Sunrise Drive, Barangay Talon-Talon, Zamboanga City.
Amisali was positively identified by three witnesses as one of the suspects in the shooting death of Judge Renerio Estacio, presiding judge of Regional Trial Court branch 14, that happened at Narra Drive, Barangay Tugbungan, Zamboanga City on February 28.
Estacio was on-board a service vehicle with his wife when two suspects came close and fired shots towards the victim.
The judge sustained two gunshot wounds in his left arm and back, which exited in his chest.
Estacio was immediately brought to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival while his wife was unhurt.
Police said it would be easier for them to identify the motive of the killing now that the suspect was arrested.
Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno thanked the police "for the speedy action" that led to Amisali's arrest.
"The arrest of the suspect in the killing of Judge Estacio must now lead to his prosecution and trial, with all due regard given to the suspect's constitutional rights," she said in a statement.
