PRESIDENT Benigno Aquino III is satisfied with the explanation of Oriental Mindoro Governor Alfonso Umali on why he called up Philippine National Police Director General Alan Purisima on the arrest of real estate developer Delfin Lee last Thursday, a Palace official said Monday.

Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said that Umali already called up the President and explained why he made a call to Purisima.

"Governor Boy Umali explained to the President and the President was satisfied with the explanation," he said in a regular press briefing.

According to Umali, Lee's lawyer Gilbert Repizo, who is his provincemate, called him up to ask the police if the warrant of arrest against his client was still standing considering the previous decision of the Court of Appeals in favor of the real estate magnate.

"And Governor Umali called up Chief Purisima and General Purisima informed Governor Umali that the warrant of arrest against Mr. Delfin Lee was still outstanding," Lacierda said of Umali's explanation.

Lee, who went into hiding since 2012 after a Pampanga court issued a warrant of arrest against him for syndicated estafa, was nabbed in Hyatt Hotel last week.

Lacierda clarified that there was no double standard on how the President treats his allies.
