Estrada dismisses Cunanan, Tuason testimonies as ‘lies’-A A +A
Wednesday, March 12, 2014
QUESTIONABLE characters was how Senator Jinggoy Estrada described former Palace Social Secretary Ruby Tuason and Technology Resource Center director general Dennis Cunanan whom the senator said failed the credibility test as provisional state witness in the pork barrel scam.
In a 20-page privilege speech, Estrada hit Cunanan by revealing that he is a jetsetter who travelled 80 times in less than 10 years.
Based on the records of the Bureau of Immigration, Estrada said Cunanan went out of the country more than 80 times from 2004 to 2013 while he was deputy director general of the TRC.
Cunanan is currently director general on-leave of the TRC.
Cunanan, now facing perjury charges from Senator Ramon Bong Revilla, who stands accused as an alleged accomplice of alleged pork scam queen Janet Lim Napoles.
Cunanan was described by Estrada as the new darling of the Department of Justice (DOJ).
Estrada in his speech detailed how Cunanan and his family started their lives from San Nicolas, Magalang in Pampanga in 2005 then transferred to Valle Verde in Pasig and is now occupying a mansion in White Plains Quezon City.
"P12 million po nabili ang bahay na ito sa White Plains ng umanoy kapatid na si Darius na ayon kay kanyang dokumento ay kumikita lamang ng P104,000.00 a year," said Estrada.
It was also revealed that Darius Cunanan was able to acquire the house last June 11, 2007 while the loan in the bank, which Dennis Cunanan said funded the house was approved last June 21, 2007.
"Who is the real owner of that house? Sampung araw na po na nabili ang bahay ni Cunanan bago lumabas ang loan at ginamit pa ito na collateral sa negosyo nilang itinayo kung saan ay isang malaking partner at share holder si Dennis Cunanan," Estrada said.
Estrada also mentioned how Cunanan described himself as a University of the Philippines graduate "when in truth he graduated his college at Lacson University in 2005 only."
Cunanan, according to Estrada, has unliquidated cash advances of more than P4 million, which Estrada said took place before the White Plain house was acquired.
"Ito ba ang ginamit niyang pera sa pagbili ng bahay sa White Plains. Bakit napakalakas ng loob ni Cunanan magsinungaling? may hawak ba siyang mapanirang impormasyon laban sa makapangyarihan tao na nasa likod niya," Estrada asked.
Cunanan claimed to have had transacted with Revilla and Estrada in the purported release of some of their Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) in the past while he dealt with supposedly, the staff of Minority Leader Juan Ponce Enrile.
Estrada also revealed that some 200 legislators transacted with TRC under Cunanan and 39 nongovernment organizations since 2007.
According to Estrada, Cunanan should have been held in contempt for allegedly lying repeatedly when he testified at the Senate blue ribbon committee on the scam.
"Sigurado sigurado siya na ako ang nakausap niya. Mahirap paniwalaan ito dahil bago pa lamang ang sinasabi niyang conversation ay pumupunta na siya sa JLN ni Napoles. Bakit pa siya mag ve-verify sa akin gayun magkakakilala na sila nina Benhur Luy?" asked Estrada.
He also revealed that Cunanan has released checks without any documents as he cited the Feb. 3 release of check when the request has been forward in TRC dated February 4.
"Dapat napansin ni Cunanan na nauna pa ang cheke kaysa sa request. Puro porma hindi reporma ang ginawa sa kanyang trabaho," he said.
Estrada said Cunanan is a polluted witness with questionable character just like Ruby Tuason.
Estrada, in his speech, described Tuason as a self-confessed bagman who seem to be a desperate witness that will do everything to save herself from criminal liabilities.
Based on documents, Estrada said Tuason acquired a P45 million house in Dasmarinas, which he called the Malampaya house of the Tuasons. This according to the senator is part of P200 million kickback of Tuason in the Malampaya scam issue.
Tuason, in his narration, also acquired houses in Las Vegas Country Club worth P6.8 million, Oakland California worth $150 thousand that was later on transferred to her son Francis and houses in Nevada as well as in Cavite and townhouses in Alabang and Valle Verde in Pasig.
Aside from the houses, Tuason also opened an P80 million micro business and a high end jewelry store in a hotel in August 2013.
Estrada also showed video footages that "resemble" Ruby Tuason, which was caught on closed-circuit television (CCTV) at least nine times inside the Senate building in the last quarter of 2008.
"Ito raw ang petsang nakakuha ako ng commission. Sa CCTV footages, November – December 2008 daw siyang nagpunta. Walang March, September and October. 'Yung malaking bag doon, baka sabihin niya yun, bag ng ibang tao 'yun. Take note, bag she is carrying there was no duffel bag, walking on 6th floor, she is only carrying her handbag," Estrada said.
In the report submitted by Senate Sergeant-at-arms retired Major General Jose Balajadia, it says that the first of their periodic compliance with the order of the blue ribbon committee dated February 13, 2014 is now submitted.
Based on the footages last November 17, 2008, the lady that resembles Tuason was caught on CCTV walking along the main lobby of the Senate at around 5:30 p.m. exiting at the 6th floor elevator at 5:15 p.m. and walking away from the 6th floor elevator at 5:17 p.m.
Several instances have been shown where Tuason appeared in the Senate, which include CCTV on November 19, 2008 and December 18, 2008.
During her testimony, Tuason claimed that she personally gave "commissions" to her co-accused, Senator Jose "Jinggoy" Estrada, either in his office in the Senate or residence in San Juan.
Estrada vehemently denied the allegation.
The senator also mentioned Remy Chan the brother of Ruby Tuason who died of cancer.
"Ginagamit ni Ruby ang pangalan ng patay na kapatid para makaligtas sa kickback sa Malampaya. All too clever and very convenient to put all the blames to Remy. Sabi nga, Dead men tell no tales. Pero siguro pwede pa rin halukayin ang katotohanan ng DOJ," he said.
Estrada said it is unbelievable for Remy to have all the P200 million kickback in Malampaya because he even went to the Senate to ask him and Senator Enrile for help during the time that he need some medical and financial help.
"Personal na pumunta sa Senado para humingi ng tulong sa amin. Hindi ko po maisip kung paano magagawa ito ng taong maysakit tulad ni Remy," Estrada said.
Estrada said the DOJ is desperate to pin down the three of them.
"Is this the handiwork of DOJ Undersecretary who I am told was too focus only on me, Sen. Enrile and Sen. Revilla? Is the DOJ now so desperate to pursue this case that they must now employ half-truth, perjured testimonies?" Estrada said.
According to reports, Tuason is now under investigation by the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) because of her numerous bank accounts.
The alleged bank deposits of Tuason were being kept in the following banks: Bank of Commerce, Banco de Oro, Hongkong & Shanghai Banking Corp., Metropolitan Bank & Co., Philippine Bank of Communications, Security Bank Corp. and Union bank.
It was also reported that AMLC is now looking into 89 of Tuason's purported bank accounts and other financial records under her name and jointly with her children kept in at least seven banks.
Documents showed that the said "monitoring" by the AMLC, an agency under the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) tasked to investigate suspicious transactions from financial institutions, was in relation to her alleged involvement in the pork barrel syndicate of Napoles.
The AMLC, it was learned, is looking into a transaction in 2010, one of her purported numerous accounts in Metrobank, amounting to P30 million and another, involving P20 million, was under her account in Union Bank in September 2008.
The P30 million was "debited" from JLN Corporation's Metrobank account and on the same date, the same amount was transferred to another purported account of Napoles' firm and "was withdrawn shortly thereafter," report said.
Estrada is confident that both Tuason and Cunanan will be answerable for all the lies that they are creating.
"At the right time, all their lies will explode on their own faces." he said. (Camille P. Balagtas/Sunnex)
