Aquino: High profile fugitives to be arrested soon-A A +A
Wednesday, March 19, 2014
ANOTHER high profile fugitives could soon be arrested following the apprehension earlier by estate developer Delfin Lee, President Benigno Aquino III disclosed Wednesday.
Aquino, in an interview after attending the Pinoy Music Summit in Malate, Manila, however, refused to divulge who the fugitives are.
Among those included in the police's five Most Wanted Persons list are retired general Jovito Palparan, former Palawan governor Joel Reyes and his brother, former Coron mayor Mario Reyes, and former congressman Ruben Ecleo.
Lee, the alleged mastermind in the P7-billion peso housing scam during the previous administration, was arrested on March 6 at a hotel in Manila.
Aquino also said that he asked Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Alan Purisima on the supposed delisting of Lee on the most wanted list.
Purisima told him that Lee's lawyer wrote to him asking him that his client's name should be removed from the "Most Wanted List," the President said.
Na arestado na, kailangan pa bang nasa list ng 'Most Wanted' 'yung wanted na nadakip na?" he said, adding that the PNP chief has about an inch-thick folder containing the explanation that was submitted to him.
Aquino said he failed to finish reading the report because he had to attend to many other things last week including the issue at the Philippine Military Academy.
He also downplayed reports regarding the supposed influential administration official who tried to stop Lee's arrest.
"Nasaan ba si Mr. Lee ngayon? Arestado. Aquino said.
Vice President Jejomar Binay has accused that an influential official attempted to block Lee's arrest. (SDR/Sunnex)
