MANILA -- The low pressure area still outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) has intensified into tropical depression, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Saturday.
Pagasa weather forecaster Fernando Cada said the tropical depression was spotted some 1,500 kilometers (km) east of southern Mindanao and is expected to enter the country by Sunday but its effects will not be immediately felt.
He added that tropical depression is forecast to move west northwest at 23 kilometers per hour (kph).
He said it will be named "Domeng," the fourth cyclone to affect the country this year.
Pura said the approaching tropical depression will start to bring rains over the eastern part of Visayas and Mindanao either Monday or Tuesday.
He said the tropical depression is likely to make a landfall somewhere between the regions of Caraga and Eastern Visayas.
The Eastern Visayas is still recovering from Typhoon Yolanda, which struck last November.
Pura emphasized that residents of the region should be made aware of the coming tropical depression's effects. (PNA)
