THE four rookie policewomen who made a quick response to the robbery incident in a jewelry shop at SM Mall of Asia (MOA) on March 30 will be honored by the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday.
Police Officers 1 Juliet Macabadbad, Marcelina Bantiag, Maricel Rueco and Delia Langpawen will get medals from PNP chief Director General Alan Purisima for their “heroic act,” said National Capital Region Police Office Director Carmelo Valmoria.
Valmoria said Macabadbad and Langpawen will receive the "Medalya ng Katapangan" while the other two will be get the "Medalya ng Kagalingan."
"They are the living proof of our dedication to the serbisyong makatotohanan," he said, adding they want the people to have confidence in the police force.
After hearing gunshots, Macabadbad, the senior among the four policewomen assigned at the mall, said they rushed to the area to check what was happening.
Macabadbad and Langpawen positioned themselves at the entrance and exit doors of the department store, while Rueco and Langpawen directed shoppers to take cover and called other police units for reinforcement.
Macabadbad said she came face-to-face with one of the suspects who pointed a gun at her but fortunately, she was able to pull the trigger and shot the suspect first.
It was their first time to respond to such incident but Macabadbad said they had no second thoughts in performing their duty.
"Trabaho namin panatilihin ang kapayapaan at kaayusan kaya hindi kami nagdalawang isip gawin ang kailangan namin gawin kahit mga babae man kami," Macabadbad said.
The four members of the National Capital Region Police Regional Public Safety Battalion (NCRPO-RPSB) are assigned at the Police Assistance Desk in the Pasay City mall.
Valmoria said they deployed female cops in some police assistance desks so that the people will not hesitate to ask for their help.
"Kasi karamihan ‘pag lalaking pulis natatakot silang lapitan," he said.
Aside from their pistols, Macabadbad said they are always armed with "presence of mind" and "alertness."
Also to be recognized are the elements of the Special Weapons and Tactics team of the Pasay City police, who helped in the arrest of Brian Bunsawan, one of the suspects of the weekend robbery. (Third Anne Peralta/Sunnex)
