MANILA -- Senators urged on Saturday pork barrel scam accused Atty. Jessica Gigi Reyes, former chief of staff and rumored mistress of Senate Minority Leader Juan Ponce Enrile, to tell the truth saying the public clamors for justice.
Senator Grace Poe said it is a welcome move if Reyes will come out and speak the truth considering the involved amount which allegedly came from the Priority Development Assistance Fund of Enrile.
"Our countrymen clamor for the truth and expect its unsullied exposition in pursuit of the nation's highest interest. Together we should encourage and support those who will champion the truth and those who will favor the public good," Poe said.
Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago described Reyes as the fall guy of Enrile.
Santiago urged Reyes to take revenge against her boss by turning state witness.
Santiago said her suspicion that Enrile was trying to make his former chief of staff a “standalone culprit” in the P10-billion “pork barrel” scam has been reinforced by the admission of the Senate minority leader’s wife that Enrile had an alleged affair with Reyes.
Santiago said the best revenge for Reyes is for her to turn the tables on Enrile by turning state witness.
Reyes slipped back into the country on Black Saturday. She arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2 on board Philippine Airlines Flight PR 105 from San Francisco.
Earlier this month, the Ombudsman found probable cause to file plunder charges against alleged pork barrel mastermind Janet Lim-Napoles, three senators and several others, including Reyes.
Amid reports that Enrile had an affair with Reyes, the senator denied his relationship with his staff about 30 years his junior.
Reyes was earlier tagged as the person behind the selective controversial distribution of cash gifts billed as additional maintenance and other operating expenses to senators.
It was reported that Reyes was the one authorizing checks in millions of pesos on behalf of Enrile and the one issuing memos to Senate functionaries involving the funds of the chamber.
Reyes earned the ire of Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, Sen. Santiago, Sen. Pia Cayetano and Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV as they were the only ones denied of the reported Christmas bonuses distributed during the time of then Senate President Enrile. (Camille p. Balagtas/Sunnex)
